Shilderic
Shilderic Joamelus, born in Saint Louis du Nord, a city in the northwest department of Haiti, is a rising artist carving a unique path in the music world. While still building his audience, Shilderic’s passion and determination are setting him apart.
His music explores deeply personal themes such as love, resilience, and the struggles of everyday life. At the same time, he isn’t afraid to create fun, bold, and explicit tracks that unapologetically express his creativity. However, Shilderic wants to be known for more than just provocative music; he is determined to prove himself as a serious artist with genuine talent.
A self-taught musician, Shilderic learned to make beats, write songs, and play the piano by studying the greats and immersing himself in music. He draws inspiration from various genres, including pop, reggae, ballads, EDM, and more. He is known for blending these styles with Haitian Creole lyrics, giving global sounds a distinctly Haitian twist. Whether it’s a Creole pop song or an EDM track, Shilderic strives to innovate within the Haitian music scene. While he’s not the first artist to experiment with this fusion, he is among the few to push the boundaries of genre in this way.
As an openly gay artist, Shilderic is breaking barriers in Haiti’s conservative and often homophobic cultural landscape. In a community where all LGBTQ+ artists remain closeted, Shilderic is determined to bring visibility and representation to the forefront. He hopes his journey will inspire others and pave the way for more inclusivity in Haitian music.
Shilderic began sharing his music on Facebook in 2019, releasing raw, unpolished demos recorded on his phone. His official debut single, Kann Kale, was released in 2021. A dancehall track with provocative undertones, the song uses sugar cane as a metaphor for male sexuality. While Kann Kale didn’t achieve mainstream success, Shilderic plans to re-release it with a music video to give it new life.
Other songs, like Moun Pa and Moun Monte Moun, further showcase Shilderic’s ability to connect with listeners through relatable lyrics and catchy rhythms. As an independent artist funding his own career, Shilderic is deeply involved in every aspect of his work, from songwriting to production.
Looking ahead, Shilderic plans to focus on the Haitian music industry, believing it needs fresh voices and perspectives. He is especially committed to creating space for LGBTQ+ representation in the industry, a cause he feels strongly about.
His upcoming EP, LA CIGALE, is a passion project that tackles social issues and highlights his versatility as an artist. While releasing such a serious project without an established fan base is a bold move, Shilderic sees it as an opportunity to prove his songwriting skills and artistic range. Once LA CIGALE is released, Shilderic plans to shift his focus back to his favorite niche, creating fun and lighthearted music.
Over the next five years, Shilderic aims to fully dedicate himself to his music career, with the ultimate goal of becoming an established and influential artist in Haiti and beyond.
